Oxford T.II W5692 near Ryther.
During the afternoon of Saturday, 1st December 1945 the pilot of this aircraft was flying it solo from Wittering back to Church Fenton where it was the airfield's Station Flight aeroplane. While he managed to reach the general area of Church Fenton, poor visibility / fog and failing light prevented him from locating the airfield and landing. At 16.22hrs while circling the pilot descended over the area to the west of Cawood to check on some lighting he spotted and while making a tight turn at low height the port wing tip struck the ground. This saw the aircraft then cartwheel, crash into a field of winter crops near Primrose Hill Farm, Ryther and break up. The pilot may have been thrown out but he sustained only a minor head injury and managed to walk to the farm for assistance.
Pilot - F/O K W Adams. Injured. (Possibly F/O Kenneth William Adams DFC RAFVR (168819)).
