Tiger Moth II T8179 near Tong, Bradford.

On 12th September 1945 the pilot of this No.25 (Polish) Flying Training School aircraft appears to have got himself lost on a training exercise. In trying to locate his home airfield of Hucknall he believed that a field near Maythorne Farm, Scholebrook, near Tong looked familiar so attempted to land. He stalled on the final approach to land then overturned on landing in a cornfield. I then expect that it then transpired to him that he was not at Hucknall airfield. The pilot luckily escaped serious injury, escaping with a cut wrist. The aircraft appears to have been badly damaged.
