Halifax VI RG651 at Holme on Spalding Moor airfield.

On 5th July 1945 this 78 Squadron aircraft was being ferried from Breighton to Holme on Spalding Moor airfield but the purpose of this is unclear, it may have been to join 76 Squadron who were based at Holme on Spalding Moor but who themselves were converting to Dakotas from their own Halifaxes. After the short ferry flight the aircraft landed at Holme on Spalding Moor at 14.20hrs but landed long down the runway. The aircraft overshot the runway and in attempting to avoid workmen deliberately swung the aircraft, unfortunately ran over a ditch and the undercarriage collapsed. A total of twelve were on board the aircraft at the time of this incident, described as both crew and passengers in the 78 Squadron record book.

Pilot - F/O Donald Francis O'Sullivan RAFVR (177841).

Eleven others - Names unknown.
