At 15.30hrs on 17th May 1945 this 78 Squadron aircraft was being loaded with a number of pyrotechnics that were to have been flown out to sea and dumped, during the loading some caught fire and eventually destroyed the aircraft. Senior officers disagreed around what had happened, one blamed careless packaging and negligence by the armourers, the commanding officer disagreed.
