Halifax VI RG544 at Carnaby airfield.

On 3rd July 1945 this 77 Squadron was flown on a flight test and during which the port inner engine failed. The aircraft had no break pressure so were diverted away from their home airfield of Full Sutton to land at the emergency landing strip at Carnaby. On landing at Carnaby at 12.35hrs the aircraft swung and eventually collided with what was described on the AM Form 1180 as being simply a "crashed aircraft". This must have been Halifax RG603 that had crashed at Carnaby at 10.00hrs. Only minor Cat.Ac/FA damage resulted to RG544 and it was repaired on site by a team from Handley Page.

Pilot - F/O John Forrest Anderson RAFVR (145077).
