Halifax VI RG500 at Elvington airfield.
At 12.50hrs on 27th June 1945 this 347 Squadron aircraft was having its engines run up on the ground at Elvington when the slipstream blew up some planks of wood laid on the ground into the tail of the aircraft which damaged it. The wood had been laid on the ground to allow for the aircraft to be dispersed on soft ground rather than a concrete dispersal point. This pilot was posted to 347 Squadron from 1663 Heavy Conversion Unit on 26th April 1945 but did not fly any operational flights before the War in Europe came to an end.
