Halifax VI RG499 at Snaith airfield.

On 19th May 1945 this 77 Squadron had been collected from Full Sutton to be disposed of but where to is not known. After a short fifteen minute flight a landing was made at Snaith airfield at 09.22hrs. As the pilot reduced power to the engines on landing a fire in the port outer engine broke out. The fire was extinguished using the built in Graviner extinguisher system but the aircraft had been slightly damaged. It was discovered that a fractured flexible hose has resulted in a fuel leak that had caught fire.

Pilot - F/Lt Stanley Thomas Holliman RAFVR (116539).

Four others - Names unknown.
