Lancaster B.I RF149 at Skipton on Swale airfield.

This aircraft had been on charge with 433 Squadron during the latter stage of the war and was one of the aircraft that remained with the squadron up until the date both 424 Squadron and 433 Squadron disbanded on 15th October 1945. After the squadrons disbanded their former aircraft needed to be disposed of. As 433 Squadron had disbanded the aircraft was left in the care of RCAF Skipton on Swale and on 31st October 1945 it appears to have been due to be flown out. Under the guidance of marshalls and as it was being taxying from it's dispersal point for a test flight the starboard fin collided with an oil lamp. Minor damage to the aircraft resulted. Those marshalling the aircraft give the pilot no indication of the obstruction being there.

Pilot - F/Lt J E Gifford RCAF (J/22050).

Lancaster RF149 was slightly damaged in a collision at Skipton on Swale on 17th July 1945.
