Spitfire HF.IX PV318 near Full Sutton.

On 29th May 1945 this 124 Squadron pilot undertook a formation flying exercise with others of the squadron around the East Yorkshire area, during the flight the aircraft began to climb through cloud when this pilot lost control and he never recovered before it dived into the ground close to Full Sutton church. A church window was damaged indicating that it must have crashed very near the church. The pilot was newly qualified and had only arrived from 53 O.T.U. at Kirton in Lindsey, he was killed in the crash.
