Halifax III MZ938 at Leconfield airfield.

During the afternoon of 20th June 1945 this 51 Squadron aircraft was flown on an airtest. During the flight the starboard inner engine was observed to be running very roughly. A normally landing was made at base of Leconfield airfield after a twelve minute flight and at 16.55hrs the engines were switched off. Immediately the starboard inner engine caught fire in the area around the air intake. The pilot operated the Graviner fire extinguisher system which put out the fire but it had damaged the engine.
