Halifax III MZ897 damaged in the air, landed at Snaith airfield.
On 19th May 1945 the crew of this 51 Squadron Halifax was tasked with disposing of bombs into the North Sea. At 13.30hrs whilst releasing them from the bomb bay one incendiary was caught in the slipstream and struck the H2S blister damaging it. The crew made a normal return to Snaith and landed safely. The crew were probably the pilot's regular navigator, bomb aimer, wireless operator and flight engineer whom had been with him briefly at 578 Squadron and then beeing posted to 51 Squadron with him in March 1945. The squadron transferred from Bomber Command to Transport Command on 8th May 1945.
