Halifax III MZ590 damaged in the air, landed at Topcliffe airfield.
On 16th May 1945 this 1659 Heavy Conversion Unit aircraft was flown on a training flight. At 12.10hrs during the approach to land at Topcliffe the flaps were lowered at too great a speed and this caused a portion of the outer section of wing flap to break off at the hinge. The pilot managed to land the aircraft normally.
The list of crew I name below were posted with P/O Edwards to O.R.T.U. on 17th June 1945 with him and were probably with him on this training flight. The navigator Sgt Keller was posted in to 1659 H.C.U. with him while Sgt Brockie was posted out with him (they swapped places in their original crews).
