Stirling GT.IV LK935 at Linton on Ouse airfield.
On 30th December 1945 this 1665 Heavy Transport Conversion Unit aircraft was flown by a trainee crew on a cross country training exercise. During the flight port undercarriage lowered, due to a technical problem, and the dinghy cover blew off on the same wing. As they approached Linton on Ouse to land then had to lower the undercarriage by the hand pump as the normal system did not work. The aircraft then went on to land normally and the crew taxied back to a dispersal point. Unfortunately the undercarriage was not locked down and when the brakes were applied in the dispersal point the undercarriage collapsed. It later transpired the crew had not been trained in checking undercarriage locking. Initially, the damage was assessed as being Cat.B/FA but on 10th January 1946 it was re-assessed and Re.Cat.E then struck off charge.
