Stirling GT.IV LJ828 at Marston Moor airfield.
On 25th September 1945 this No.1665 Heavy Transport Conversion Unit aircraft was being flown on a training flight when a tyre burst on landing at Marston Moor airfield. The aircraft swung off the runway and when the wheel rim dug into soft ground next to another runway it sunk in causing the undercarriage leg to collapse. As it came to a halt a fire broke out and the aircraft was damaged further. The pilot (and probably the same crew) were killed days later when Stirling LK622 crashed in Tockwith village on 9th October 1945. LJ828 carried a crew of six, as did LK622; both were probably the same crew.
Pilot - F/O Sydney Harold Bunting RAFVR (172231).

Bomb Aimer - F/O Herbert Kenneth Griffiths RAFVR (164899).
