Unidentified Firefly at Redcar.

On an unknown date in August 1945 this Fleet Air Arm aircraft made a forced landing on the beach at Redcar. No injuries were reported but no other details about the incident are known. Mention in the local newspaper was made that it forced landed in the sea the week prior to Saturday, 4th August 1945, then dragged up out of reach of the tide and placed near the New Pavilion where FAA mechanics were dismantling it for transportation. I therefore infer it was probably 1st or 2nd August 1945. Unlikely to have been the 3rd because the newspaper would have stated "yesterday".
