Wellington III DF675 near Beverley.
On 5th July 1945 this Central Gunnery School aircraft was being flown on a training flight that included the pilot shutting down one of the engines to practice flying on one engine. At 10,000 feet the pilot shut down the port engine. Later, he attempted to restart the engine but later stated that neither engine then gave enough power. The aircraft gradually lost height and unable to reach an airfield a forced landing was made in a field near Beverley that saw it badly damaged. The pilot had probably shut down power to starboard engine instead of restarting port one.
Pilot - F/O Harper. Uninjured.
