Mustang I AM123 at Church Fenton airfield.

On 11th May 1945 this aircraft was due to be flown from Church Fenton to Silloth airfield by a pilot of No.4 Delivery Flight (based at Clifton, York). On take off from Church Fenton a glycol hose pipe clip broke and sprayed glycol onto windscreen and also onto the pilot's flying goggles. The pilot managed to get airborne but it also transpired that the air speed indicator was not working. He flew a circuit of airfield and attempted to land but it over-ran the runway. Where the aircraft had served prior to this flight is unclear; I have yet to view it's AM Form 78. It was probably heading to Silloth for storage.

Pilot - W/O H L Theobald (probably W/O Harold Leslie Theobald RAF (901008)).
