Halifax at Y.A.R.D. at Clifton / Rawcliffe airfield.
On 6th June 1945 an apprentice electrician was found dead inside a Halifax he had been working on
at the York Aircraft Repair Depot on Water Lane, York. He was discovered by a fellow electrical
apprentice Edwin Coates. The reasons surrounding his death are not yet known. It is not thought
that he died as a result of any form of crash, but probably due to being overcome with fumes.
Apprentice electrician - Mr George William Simpson, aged 14, of York. Died. Burial location unknown.
The fatality was probably one George William Simpson, born on 25th September 1931 in Doncaster and was the son of Francis Hullett and Ada (nee Spacie) Simpson. His father's family lived
on the Yorkshire Coast but he moved away for work, then subsequently married in the Doncaster area. Soon after George was born the family moved back to Cleveland.
