Spitfire K9971 at Church Fenton aerodrome.
On 18th July 1939 this 602 Squadron aeroplane landed at Church Fenton aerodrome but skidded on wet grass, overshot and hit a hedge. 602 Squadron were based at Abbotsich at the time of the incident.

F/Lt Stone AFC was later killed when Master W8777 crashed on 25th February 1942 while serving with No.1 S.F.T.S. near Shrewton.
