On 19th July 1939 this 72 Squadron aeroplane was landed with the wheels retracted in error at Church Fenton aerodrome.

Spitfire K9927 was built to contract 527113/36 by Vickers Armstrongs (Supermarine) Ltd. at Woolston and was taken on charge by 72 Squadron at Church Fenton on 14th April 1939. As a result of the damage sustained there on 19th July 1939 Cat.W/FA damage was the damage assessment and it was struck off charge.
During the Battle of Britain P/O Robson claimed a He.III destroyed in early July 1940. On 15th August 1940 he claimed a Bf110 damaged. On 2nd September 1940 he claimed a share in the destruction of a Do17. On 10th September 1940 he claimed a share in the destruction of a Do17. On 27th September 1940 he claimed a share in the destruction of a Do17 and on 27th October 1940 he claimed a share in the destruction of a Bf110.
