Spitfire K9842 at Catterick aerodrome.
On 23rd May 1939 this 41 Squadron aeroplane was damaged at night at Catterick aerodrome. The AM Form 1180 is hard to read but appears to state that the aeroplane stalled just before landing and a heavy landing caused the undercarriage to collapse.
Pilot - P/O Colin Robertson RAF (33412).
S/Ldr Colin Robertson was killed on 12th December 1943 when Mosquito DD754 of 25 Squadron crashed near West Flotmanby, Filey.
Spitfire K9842 was built to contract 527113/36 by Vickers Armstrong's (Supermarine) Ltd. at Woolston and was taken on charge by 41 Squadron at Catterick on 16th January 1939. As a result of crashing at Catterick on 23rd May 1939 Cat.W/FA damage was the damage assessment and it was struck off charge. It had clocked up 97.15 flying hours from new.
