Whitley K8993 near Driffield aerodrome.
On 12th April 1939 this 77 Squadron aeroplane was flown on a night training flight, on return to land at Driffield aerodrome the aeroplane undershot on landing, the tail struck a fence on the boundary of a field just short of the aerodrome site and it was slightly damaged.

Whitley K8993 was built to contract 522438/36 by Armstrong Whitworth Ltd. at Baginton and was taken on charge by 77 Squadron at Driffield on 24th January 1939. It crashed near Driffield on 12th April 1939 that saw a Cat.M/FA damage assessment and a repair on site. On 27th September 1939 it was transferred to 102 Squadron at Driffield. On 17th January 1940 it was transferred to 166 Squadron at Abingdon and on 2nd April 1940 repairable Cat.M/FA damage occurred when the undercarriage collapsed whilst taxying at Jurby. It was returned to 166 Squadron and on 18th April 1940 the unit was re-designated 10 O.T.U.. On 24th June 1940 it was flown to Armstrong Whitworth Ltd. at Baginton where it remained until being struck off charge on 11th March 1941.
