Gloster Gauntlet K7812 at Doncaster aerodrome.

On 8th July 1939 this 616 Squadron aeroplane struck the wind direction indicator while making a landing at Doncaster aerodrome and crashed.

Gauntlet K7812 was built to contract 442477/35 by the Gloster Aircraft Company Ltd. at Hucclecote and was initially taken on charge by 56 Squadron at North Weald on 7th October 1936. On 17th March 1937 it was transferred to 213 Squadron at Northolt and the squadron later moved to Church Fenton on 1st July 1937 and then to Wittering on 18th May 1938. The aircraft was transferred to 616 Squadron at Doncaster on 13th February 1939 and as a result of the accident there on 8th July 1939 Cat.W/FA damage was the damage assessment that saw it struck off charge.
