Hawker Audax K7340 at Catfoss aerodrome.

On 11th February 1939 No.3 Flying Training School were part way through a training camp at Catfoss aerodrome that would give their aircrew bombing and gunnery training on the ranges off the Yorkshire coast. The unit was based at South Cerney. On landing at Catfoss the aeroplane overshot, crashed and overturned.

Audax K7340 was built to contract 437223/35 by A.V.Roe & Co.Ltd. at Chadderton and was taken on charge by No.3 Flying Training School on 24th August 1936. At that time they were based at Spittlegate (Grantham) but on 16th August 1937 they moved to South Cerney. As a result of damage sustained on 11th February 1939 the damage was assessed as being repairable Cat.R/FA. It sat at Catfoss until 18th April 1939 when it was transported by road to Rollason's Ltd, Croydon for a repair in works. On 28th October 1939 it was repaired and was flown to 9 MU at Cosford. On 27th August 1940 it went to 52 MU at Pengam Moors (Packing Depot), Cardiff. On 2nd May 1941 it went to 30 MU at Sealand. On 10th June 1941 it went to 24 MU at Ternhill and on 8th April 1942 it went to 8 MU at Little Rissington. On 15th June 1942 it was taken on charge by No.7 FIS at Upavon. On 19th August 1942 it went to 18 MU at Dumfries, on 23rd December 1942 it went to 5 MU at Kemble and on 30th December 1942 it was taken on charge by 15 (P)AFU at Andover. It was struck off charge on 16th November 1943.
