Heyford K6897 at Driffield aerodrome.

During April 1939 148 Squadron, based at Stradishall began exchanging their Heyfords for Ansons. On 29th April 1939 their former Heyford K6897 was to be transferred to join No.4 Air Observer School at West Freugh, Scotland. It appears to have been flown up the east side of England then used Driffield aerodrome to probably make a refuelling stop. Whilst taxying at Driffield the brakes failed and it unfortunately ran into a hanger door. The damage and also because it was an obsolete aeroplane saw no repairs carried out and it was struck off charge.
