Heyford K6890 at Leconfield aerodrome.

On 25th March 1939 this 166 Squadron aeroplane was being taxied at Leconfield aerodrome when the brakes failed and it ran into a hanger. It must have been deemed damaged enough to write it off as it was struck off charge soon after.

W/Co Leslie Crooks DSO DFC was killed on the night of 17th / 18th August 1943 when Lancaster DS681 crashed near Greifswald in Germany after a secret mission to bomb an experimental science station at Peenemunde.
