Hawker Hind K6820 at Yeadon.

On Monday, 29th May 1939 this 609 Squadron aeroplane struck a radio mast on take off from Yeadon aerodrome and then crashed. The wreckage was taken back to Yeadon by the Station Flight at Yeadon for assessment and eventual repair.

Hind K6820 was built to contract 424397/35 by Hawker Aircraft Ltd and was initially taken on charge by 110 Squadron at Waddington on 10th June 1937. On 1st February 1938 it was transferred to 50 Squadron at Waddington then on 8th May 1939 it was transferred to 609 Squadron at Yeadon. As a result of crashing there on 29th May 1939 Cat.R/FA damage was the damage assessment and it was transported back to Yeadon aerodrome for repair by the Station Flight, Yeadon. On 1st April 1940 it was flown to 10 MU at Hullavington then on 14th July 1940 it passed to 47 MU at Burtonwood. On 20th August 1940 the aeroplane was transferred to the RNZAF and was re-serialled NZ1530. After this nothing more is known.
