Hawker Hind K6772 at Brough aerodrome.

On 13th April 1939 this No.4 Elementary and Reserve Flying Training School aeroplane overshot on landing at Brough aerodrome. It crashed into some form of banking (possibly the railway embankment) and overturned.

Pilot - Name unknown.


Hind K6772 was built to contract 424397/35 by Hawker Aircraft Ltd. at Kingston and was initially taken on charge by 62 Squadron at Abingdon on 13th April 1937. On 30th June 1938 it went to 24 MU at Ternhill and was then taken on charge by No.4 Elementary and Reserve Flying Training School at Brough on 24th November 1938. It sustained Cat.M/FA damage following a mishap at Brough on 13th April 1939 that saw it repaired on site. On 3rd September 1939 it was transferred to No.10 FTS at Ternhill and on 25th September 1939 it sustained repairable Cat.M/FA damage when it swung on landing at Ternhill and tipped on it's nose. On 17th January 1940 it again sustained repairable Cat.M/FA damage when it skidded on frozen ground at Ternhill and ran into a hedge. On 16th April 1940 it was transferred to No.1 FTS at Netheravon but on 14th June 1940 it stalled on landing at Stormy Down resulting in the undercarriage collapsing. Cat.W/FA damage was the damage assessment that then saw it converted to Ground Instructional Airframe 2040M a short time later.
