During the evening of 7th May 1939 two members of Hull's Civil Air Guard were flying an aircraft low and in the Beverley area when the aircraft's starboard wing caught telephone wires and the mast of a keel boat
moored in Beverley Beck. The pilot remained in control and was able to fly back to Hedon aerodrome where a normal landing was made. The aircraft was possibly owned by Hull Aero Club with the two men also being
members of the club.
