Piper PA-32-300 Cherokee Six G-AVFS at Crosland Moor airfield.

Prior to this eventual accident the aircraft was flown by a different pilot who landed at Sibson airfield, near Peterborough and reported that it was suffering from an oil leak because oil was being deposited on the windscreen. The aircraft was inspected on the ground at Sibson and prepared for the flight to return it to Blackpool. On Friday, 28th September 1990 it took off from Sibson with two pilots on board, they initially headed north and landed at Gamston where the engine and oil were checked. While around a litre of oil had been lost on this part of the flight they believed that there was enough oil in the engine to make it back to Blackpool so took off again. Around half way to Blackpool and as they were about to cross the Pennines the oil pressure suddenly dropped so the crew immediately diverted to Crosland Moor airfield. Prior to landing the oil pressure gauge showed all the oil had gone. A landing was made at Crosland Moor at 17.30hrs but after touching down the aircraft swung to the left, left the runway and ran down a steep bank onto a road (probably the airfield access road). At the time of this incident the aircraft was registered to Comed Aviation Ltd, of Blackpool Airport (Squires Gate).
