Shorts SD3-60 G-OLBA at Leeds-Bradford airfield.

On Tuesday, 11th April 1989 a gale affected Northern England. At around 19.00hrs this aircraft landed at Leeds-Bradford airfield on Runway 28 in the strong wind but the pilot could not stop the aircraft on the runway and it overshot onto the grass by around fifty metres. There appears to have been no AAIB report made for this incident which could point to there being very little damage occurring. A mention of this incident is given in an Air Yorkshire newsletter which stated that it over-ran and almost ended up in the boundary fence near where the resident aero club was based. It was dragged clear by 22.50hrs that evening and "retired hurt to the Northair / Capital hanger". The aircraft was registered to Capital Airlines Ltd. at the time and was based at Leeds-Bradford airfield. A photograph of it is shown on Flickr, taken by Ian Gratton on 30th April 1989 on the Yorkshire Light Aircraft concrete at Leeds-Bradford airfield. It appears to show no damage by that date.
