DeHavilland DHC-1 Chipmunk G-BCCX at Dishforth airfield.
This aircraft was used at Dishforth airfield for aerotow launching gliders. At 13.00hrs on 14th January 1989 while moving to line up for an aerotow launch at Dishforth it crossed the centreline and then turned into a strong and gusty wind. The aircraft then pitched nosedown and despite the pilot reducing power and releasing the brakes he could not prevent the propeller hitting the grass. The aircraft was registered to the Royal Air Force Gliding and Soaring Association, this organisation was registered to RAF Halton airfield.
