Jodel DR.120 Paris-Nice G-AYRS near Preston, Hull.

On Monday, 17th July 1989 this aircraft took off from Sproatley airfield for a flight over the local Hull area. While flying at around 1000 feet above the Humber a loud bang was heard by the pilot and the propeller detached from the engine. The pilot turned the aircraft around and headed for the airfield but did not have enough height to reach it in a glide. He selected a field near Preston to make a forced landing and while it landed at 13.50hrs, possibly near Somerden Farm, Neat Marsh, it sustained damage to the undercarriage and wings. The end of one of the propeller blades came to earth at King George Dock narrowly missing two anglers. The aircraft was registered to Kenneth Heeley, of Emley, Huddersfield, who probably based it at Crosland Moor airfield.
