Schleicher Ka-6CR BGA.2259 at Rufforth airfield.
On 31st December 1988 glider flying was undertaken at Rufforth airfield and mixed aerotow and winch operations took place. Prior to an aerotow launch the tug pilot noticed some cables near to his aircraft so made a club member aware of this and then taxied forward some twenty five feet to ensure the glider was clear of them. During the subsequent take-off run the cable then caught in the tail skid of the glider. The glider was then released at around 300 feet but its nose dropped, the glider rolled and then crashed. One of the occupants of the glider sustained serious injuries while the other escaped injury. The glider was badly damaged.
The glider was listed as registered to the Hambletons Gliding Club (at Dishforth) in the 1986-87 Soaring Yearbook. The Hambletons and the Ouse Gliding Clubs amalgamated in 1987. Around the same time it became known as the York Gliding Centre.
