Let L-13 Blanik BGA.2106 at Rufforth airfield.

On 6th February 1988 this glider was flown on a general training flight in the area around Rufforth airfield with an instructor and a pupil in the cockpit. While making a turn prior to landing the glider at Rufforth at 10.30hrs, with the pupil at the controls, it was descending more than was required. The instructor realised that the glider would undershoot so initially asked the pupil to close the airbrakes but the glider's descent increased. The instructor then took control but could not prevent it undershooting and hitting a fifteen foot high tree. The glider was damaged but the two on board escaped injury. It was found that the instructor was used to a Schleicher ASK-13 glider which had different flap and brake levers configuration. Instead of closing the airbrake it was left extended and the flaps were also extended which caused the glider to descend more quickly. The glider was registered to the Ouse and Hambletons Gliding Club and was based at Rufforth.
