PZL-Bielsko SZD-38A Jantar 1 BGA.2041 at Dishforth airfield.

During the afternoon of 1st October 1988 this glider was attached to a tug aircraft at Dishforth airfield with a tow rope to be given an aerotow launch. At 17.05hrs the tug aircraft began the launch and set off along the runway but it pulled the glider with a jerk which then slackened and tightened the rope. As the glider moved forward a wing dropped and caught in some long grass beside the runway. The pilot probably cast off but the glider then groundlooped and the fuselage was damaged. In the 1986-87 British Soaring Yearbook this glider was registered to R.Mortimer and was based at Sutton Bank. I do not have the 1988 yearbook to know if he was still the owner when this incident occurred.

Pilot - Name unknown.
