Slingsby T.67a Firefly G-BJZM at Catwick.
At 14.45hrs on 29th March 1987 this aircraft took off from Grindale airfield with the pilot carrying his girlfriend as a passenger. Where it then flew for the next half an hour is not known. At around 15.15hrs it was in the Brandesburton area, between Beverley and Bridlington, where the pilot knew the owners of Sandsfield Farm, Catwick. Here the aircraft was seen to make several very low passes of the farm at which time the aircraft was untaking aerobatics. Just prior to the eventual crash the aircraft was seen to make a half-roll, once inverted the nose dropped and the aircraft dived into the ground. The aircraft disintergrated and the two occupants were killed.
The aircraft was registered to Specialist Flying Training Ltd, of Carlisle, but must have been leased to the Skysports Centre, at Grindale, because the pilot had hired it from them on the day of the crash. It was written off following this incident.
