LET L-13 Blanik BGA.2172 at Marton le Moor.
During the evening of 9th August 1987 this glider took off from Dishforth airfield. The pilot attempted to soar in conditions of weak lift and the glider drifted downwind of the airfield. He decided to return to the airfield but the headwind was too strong and the glider would not reach the airfield so at 18.10hrs he attempted to land in a field near Marton le Moor. On nearing this field he believed that the glider may strike a fence so he decided to land before this initial field. This was a field of standing corn which damaged the glider. In the 1986-87 British Soaring Handbook this glider is listed as registered to W.Smith who based it at Dishforth airfield.
