SZD-30 Pirat BGA.1552 near Sheffield.

On Saturday, 5th September 1987 during a Silver Distance award flight the pilot was forced to make a landing in the Sheffield area. He selected a field but on the approach the aircraft sank and he could not reach this initial field. He then attempted to land in another field but this was not suitable and it ran into a small quarry. The front of the glider was damaged. In the 1986-87 British Soaring Handbook this glider is listed as registered to C.Dews of Duxford. This was probably Colin Dews who was an active member of the gliding community at the time.
