Unidentified Schleicher ASW-19 at Burn airfield.
On 24th October 1987 this glider was rigged for flight at Burn airfield by the pilot who was then given an aerotow launch. Once in the air the pilot noticed the glider's nose began to climb steeply. He attempted to check this climb but released the cable at fifty feet above the ground after regaining level flight. He then attempted to land straight ahead but then realised he had no elevator control. The landing was then heavy and some damage resulted. It was found that the pilot had forgotten to rig the elevator and that the flying controls were not independently checked prior to the flight. He was very lucky to survive.
The glider was probably ASW-19 BGA.2451 that was registered to N.Spencer who based it at Burn airfield.
Pilot - Name unknown.
