Solar Wings Pegasus Flash II G-MNPB at Wombleton airfield.

During the afternoon of 12th August 1986 this microlight was being test flown in the form of a basic circuits and landings flight using Wombleton airfield. The pilot made two successful circuits and landings on the airfield and began the third. At 14.00hrs and on the approach to land for the third time a vehicle was driven onto the airfield so the pilots did not make the landing but flew an overshoot and made a fourth circuit. On the approach for the fourth time the pilots saw that the vehicle had not left the landing area so power was applied to climb away but the engine failed to pick up speed. By this time the aircraft was too low to fly above the airfield's boundary fence so the pilot flying it attempted to make a forced landing in a corn field next to the airfield but the aircraft appears to have clipped trees, rolled over, crashed and was damaged. The named pilot sustained serious injuries but recovered and resumed microlight flying. The location for this incident given in newspapers is at Foxes Covert, which is probably referring to the small area of woodland on the Harome side of the airfield that was used at the bomb dump in the Second World War.

Pilot - Mr Eden John Blyth.

Passenger - Name unknown.

The aircraft was built in 1986 and its airworthiness certificate was granted on 18th April 1986 to Eden John Blyth, of Windsports Centre Ltd, Wombleton airfield. It was rebuilt after this accident and sold to Graham Jewitt at Wykeham Abbey in 1988. It was then sold again in 1990 and went south. Its final certificate of airworthiness expired in November 2000.
