Lockheed L-1011-385-1 Tristar G-BBAI at Leeds-Bradford airfield.

At 13.45hrs on Monday, 27th May 1985 this aircraft made an approach to land at Leeds-Bradford airfield in poor weather. Just prior to touching down it floated and eventually touched down around half way down the runway. The aircraft aquaplaned in standing water and the crew were unable to stop the aircraft on the remaining runway. It overshot onto the grass beyond and began to run down a slope off the airfield but the nosewheel sank and then collapsed. A significant number of passengers were all evacuated by chutes with eight suffering minor injuries. The aircraft was registered to British Airways Plc, of Heathrow. It was repaired on site and flown out on 27th September 1985 to Gatwick after engines ground runs for the previous ten days at Leeds-Bradford.
