W.H.E. Airbuggy G-AXYX at Melbourne airfield.

On Saturday, 30th July 1983 the pilot of this autogyro had intended on undertaking flying circuits of Melbourne airfield at a height of 500 feet above the ground. While the aircraft took off from the airfield normally and then climbed to 300 feet, it would not then climb any higher. The pilot immediately descended to land but came down in a rough field next to the airfield and the aircraft was badly damaged in a heavy landing. The aircraft was registered to Mr Richard Timothy Gunn, of Pudsey, West Yorkshire.

Pilot - Name unknown.

The wreckage appears to have sat with a repair incomplete for some time. It was later sold to Wallace Bertrand Lumb, of Manchester but the registration was cancelled on 28th August 1987 as "destroyed" though this does not appear to have been the result of another mishap nearer that date. I would love to hear from anyone who can add more if this is not correct.
