Jet Provost T.3A XM366 near Tollingham.
During the afternoon of Thursday, 22nd October 1981 this No.7 Flying Training School aircraft was being flown on a training flight over the general area around Holme on Spalding Moor and Market Weighton when it suffered an engine flame out. The pilot was unable to relight the engine so ejected. He landed safely near to and on the South Cliffe side of the former Market Weighton Canal. The aircraft went on to crash nearby in a ploughed field near Wholsea Farm, a mile from the hamlet of Tollingham, and the airfield at Holme on Spalding Moor. The pilot is named elsewhere as being that listed below, I offer a more fuller identity for him.
Pilot - P/O P B Smith (probably P/O Peter Barrie Smith RAF (8027595T)).
