Jet Provost T.3 XN585 near Little Ouseburn.

On 28th March 1979 this No.1 Flying Training School aircraft was taking off Linton on Ouse airfield when the engine fire warning activated in the cockpit soon after the aircraft left the ground. Both instructor and pupil ejected safely leaving aircraft to crash at the side of the A46 road, just north of the Green Tree Inn, Little Ouseburn. Both men were able to walk away from their parachute landings and were taken back to Linton on Ouse airfield by car.

Pilot Instructor - F/Lt John Michael Doggart RAF (608947).

Pilot Pupil - P/O Christopher Derek Tingay RAF (8125804).

S/Ldr Tingay was awarded the Air Force Cross for his work with 47 Squadron piloting aid flights to Sarajevo in 1992. I would recommend anyone to read the citation for this award, which presumably was the highest award that could be made for this work.
