Jet Provost T.5 XW414 near Dishforth.

On 28th June 1978 this No.3 Flying Training School took off from Leeming and was flown to Dishforth airfield where a circuits and landings training exercise was held. While making an approach to land at Dishforth the engine failed. The pilot ejected and landed in field. The aircraft crashed just north of the main runway at Dishforth and while it initially struck the grass verge of the southbound carriageway of the A1 road and then skidded through a fence into a field clear of the road.
