Jet Provost T.4 XS211 near Leeming airfield.
During the afternoon of Friday, 13th February 1976 this School of Refresher Flying (S.O.R.F.) aircraft suffered engine failure while flying near Leeming airfield. Both pilots ejected and the aircraft crashed just north of the airfield boundary, near Grimescar Farm. One of the airmen sustained very serious injuries in his landing owing to the seat not detaching from him. The aircraft was either in the process of taking off or on a landing approach at Leeming when the incident occurred. It crashed less than a mile from the end of the runway. The loss of engine power may have been due to fuel starvation.
