Unidentified Slingsby T.41 Skylark 2 glider at Pocklington airfield.

My information for this incident came from a club member who was having his lunch at a nearby Little Chef at the time of the incident but who returned to the airfield witness the aftermath of the crash. On an unknown date during Spring 1976 a Wolds Gliding Club single seat Skylark glider was being given a winch launch from one of the old concrete runways at Pocklington airfield with a light wind blowing. With the glider just 300 feet into the air the winch cable snapped. The pilot cast off the cable and attempted to turn the aircraft around to make a landing on the airfield but the flying speed was not fast enough. The glider went into a spin and crashed, wing first onto the airfield and was badly damaged. The pilot survived but sustained back injuries that saw him taken to York Hospital. This glider was the only single seater the club owned at the time and was destroyed. I have not identified the date or the glider involved though it was possibly one that had been used by the Leeds Gliding Club before they converted to become the Wolds Gliding Club.
