Piper PA-22-160 Tri-Pacer G-ARAJ near Skipsea.

On 15th June 1976 this aircraft was being flown from Baldock to Usworth, Sunderland following a business trip to London and the pilot had intended on landing at Grindale airfield to refuel. As they followed the coast of East Yorkshire flying North low cloud began to affect pilot's visibility, so much so that he had to reduce height. The visibility became so much of a problem that the pilot was trying to attempt a landing in a field just south of Skipsea. Before the aircraft reached his selected field the engine cut out so he was left to crashland. It crashed into a cornfield next to the Hornsea to Bridlington Road at Skirlington, around 400 yards from Far Grange Caravan Site. The aircraft was damaged. Both men, who were from the Sunderland area, received minor injuries and one of the aircraft's owners was the passenger.

The aircraft was registered to the Wearside Flying Association, Sunderland with Mr Kenneth Cochrane and Mr Michael Roland being the two named owners.

Pilot - Mr Kenneth Brady.

Passenger - Mr Kenneth Cochrane.
