Cessna F.150-L G-BAEU near Micklefield.
On 13th July 1974 this aircraft was being flown in the Castleford area when it was flown into stormy weather and the pilot was unable to continue. He attempted a forced landing on the A1 road just south of Micklefield, which cannot have had many cars present. He was then able to taxi onto the central reservation and it was undamaged apart from a slight bend to one of the wings. The police later closed the road and the pilot was able to taxi into a car park area away from traffic.
The aircraft was owned by the pilot and given he was from Collingham, near Wetherby, he probably based the aircraft at Leeds-Bradford airfield.
Pilot - Mr Arthur Ralph Ashley.
